The 300,000 people who call Iceland home know they live on a geologically unstable volcanic rock up in the north Atlantic…but they love it! The last big one in Iceland was back in June of 2000 and measured 6.6 on the Richter scale.
Now no doubt this will cause the global warming crowd to spring into action trying to say see this is what’s going to start happening as the ice continues to melt. Well if you hear anyone say that, tell them they don’t know what they’re talking about. Iceland is a volcano, not an ice sheet! And volcanos rock and roll from time to time.
In fact, Iceland is a very popular tourist destination. Thousands of people travel each year to see the sights of Iceland and explore some of the most popular places to see.
Places like Fullfoss or the Golden Falls. This beautiful waterfall is supplied by the river Hvita and goes down a two stage cascade and will be one of the best tourist stops you could ever add to your bucket list. or Geysir and Strokkur, a couple of the “hottest” (pardon the pun) geothermal spots in Iceland. Tourists flock to these warm springs each year to witness the eruption of Stokkur similar to Old Faithful in America’s Yellowstone national Park.
Iceland is a very popular vacation destination for the residents of Europe. It is close enough to make for an easy get away and yet very different, and thus a great vacation escape, from their everyday lives and accommodations on the continent.
The bottom line is that Iceland is a beautiful, green place with lots of life and activity…especially under the ground in its geothermal active volcano! Don’t let the global warming crowd take the earthquake in Iceland as an opportunity to further their cause. There are lots of aspects of global warming that are real and verifiable, the Iceland Earthquake on Thursday is not one of them.
