We all know Jenna Fischer as Pam, the somewhat repressed receptionist in the hit NBC series The Office. She has certainly made a splash of late on the big screen as well with her latest endeavour due out in limited release this weekend. Perhaps not filled with the best advice or examples of how to get that next job promotion, but supposedly pretty funny.

In The Promotion, Jenna Fischer is reunited with her co-star from Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, John C. Reilly. The movie tells the story of two assistant managers in a corporate owned grocery chain both competing for the manager’s job at a new store. Jenna Fischer plays a nurse married to one of the assistant managers.

While you may not find any bankable tips for getting your next job promotion in The Promotion, we though we might share with you a couple of tips that might help the next time you’re up for that next step up the corporate ladder.

The number one rule…and its an easy one…be on time every time. How can you expect to be taken seriously for that next promotion if you can’t even make it in on time? Another tip when seeking a promotion, dress for success. That’s right, image is everything and if you dress up your’ll act up and perform up and eventually move up. In other words, are you the one that pulls something on every morning as you head to your dead-end job or are you the one that dresses like you’re already the professional you want to be?

Here’s another simple and often overlooked tip. Ask for more responsibility. Think about it, the worst they can do is tell you no and it will put you on their radar as seeking more responsibility when that next promotion does come around. Finally, lean and practice public speaking. This is a skill all professionals need and very few have, and if you have it, it will go a long way toward getting you that next promotion over the other candidate!

So this summer when you go to see The Promotion with Jenna Fischer, be sure to keep your own next promotion in mind. You’ll probably be seeing lots of things not to do!
